Socrates helps you list and share AI tools. You bring the idea — or your own model link — and early builders help shape what's next.
How it works: This step uses OpenAI (GPT-4o-mini) to turn your answers into a tool spec. If your site is configured with SOCRATES_API_ORIGIN pointing at a deployment that has OPENAI_API_KEY, generation runs on the server (nothing blocked by the browser). Otherwise it calls OpenAI from your browser with your API key. Claude is not used on this page. No key / “Failed to fetch”? Use Manual or Advanced, serve the site over https:// (not as a downloaded file:// page), or try disabling extensions that block api.openai.com.
How running works: Your listing stores the prompt you write. On the marketplace, each visitor runs the in-page assistant with their own OpenAI or Claude key — you are not charged per run by Socrates.
Honest scope: Socrates does not execute your custom model on our GPUs yet. This publishes your listing + link + guidance. True “we host your weights” is on the roadmap; until then, visitors use your endpoint (or the in-page assistant explains how).
Stand out: badge, subtitle, optional brand accent, tags, link, Run fields, sample output. Run the SQL in supabase/add_publish_columns_tools.sql if publishing fails (adds listing_extras).
Makes your card distinct when the name or emoji looks like another listing.
Up to 20 short tags; helps future search and your dashboard.
Appended to your public description as a “More” link.
Buyers see these in the Run modal after the main input (tone, format, audience, etc.).
Your tool is built. Hit publish and it goes live on the Socrates Marketplace immediately.
PNG, JPG, WebP, or GIF — max 220KB. Replaces the emoji on your marketplace card.
